China Unicom Expected to Sell Dell Android Smartphones in China

Dell is set to enter into a cooperation agreement with China Unicom, whereby the latter will distribute Dell's Smartphones based on Google's Android open-source platform , the SinoCast Daily Business Beat reported on July 14. The Dell Android phone, to be manufactured by Taiwan-based EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services) supplier Foxconn, is slated for commercialization in China some time around in the Fall of 2009, according to the same source. Meanwhile, with a series of preferential policies launched by the Chinese government, Dell is expected to concentrate on the development of netbook PCs and low-price PCs, with the aim to boost its presence in rural China in 2009. Whether or not China Unicom will be the exclusive provider of the phone in China was not yet known though. Further details regarding the phone price were not yet disclosed.
